Dec. 1, 2006.
Supporters of Kleeman and Mike for Africa gave over $3500 to send humanitarian aid to the refugees of the civil war in Darfur.  More to come shortly.

Nov. 25.  DEADLINE EXTENDED THROUGH NOV. 30!
Unfortunately, as many of you know, Darfur has once again been in the news over the last week as the situation has deteriorated even more.

Thanks to everyone who has already given!  Kleeman and Mike for Africa has already raised over $2400!  I know many of you are still planning to give, so I've extended the campaign through the end of November.  Plus, I still have a big stack of the special comic books which I don't want to throw away. So if you haven't already, make a contribution to save lives! Make ANY contribution! I want to send you a comic book!

Oct 8, 2006

Welcome to the 2006 Kleeman and Mike for Africa campaign!  Our goal is to raise $2000 to provide humanitarian aid to people in Darfur, Sudan, where over 2 million people have been displaced as a result of civil war.

The campaign will run from Oct. 9 through Nov. 23, 2006

Donations will be made directly to CARE USA

Everyone who gives will receive a special 8 page color comic book on the subject of LOVE by yours truly!

THE CAUSE
The Darfur region of Sudan in northern Africa is now three years into a civil war that has taken a huge toll on the people in the region.  By many estimates, over 200,000 people have been killed, and currently over 2 million people have had to flee their homes and now live in overcrowded makeshift refugee camps.  According to Oxfam, 3 million people are now completely dependent on humanitarian aid.  What is worse, as long as the violent conflict continues these people have no way of helping themselves.  They cannot get jobs.  The children cannot go to school.  Even venturing out of the camps to obtain firewood or food carries the risk of being raped or killed.

THE RELIEF
Political action by the United States and the international community is working to seek an end to the crisis, but for now, the millions of people trapped by the conflict simply need our help in order to survive day-to-day.

THE ORGANIZATION
CARE is one of the world's largest private international humanitarian organizations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty.  More than 90 percent of CARE's expended resources - among the highest of all philanthropic organizations - support their poverty-fighting projects around the world. Less than 10 percent of expended resources go toward administrative and fund-raising costs.  CARE is working in the Darfur region to help meet the people's most basic needs, including food, shelter, water and sanitation facilities
